South Sudan

FASTA is collaborating with UNMISS to bring real-time storm forecasting to South Sudan

South Sudan has been impacted by flooding in the past four years consecutively. With large population settlement in the Floodplains of the River Nile, slight changes in precipitation, runoffs from the highlands of Ethiopia, and overflows from Lake Victoria, result in flooding and displacement of communities over protracted periods. This constitutes a major cause of inter- and intra-communal conflicts.

In partnership with Dr Johnson Nkem, Senior Climate and Security Advisor for the United Nations Missions in South Sudan (UNMISS), and the United Nations Country Team (UNCT) in South Sudan, FASTA aims to bring near real-time storm information to Disaster Risk Management Agencies and Local Communities in South Sudan.
